Our goals include increasing professional opportunities for local artists and encouraging collaboration among locals and guests to explore the cultural and social identity unique to Wilmington, NC. We engage artists and audiences in conversations with unusual performance venues and projects, while supporting emerging and established artists. It is our mission to foster conversations, connections and community and to create meeting places for exchange and discussion to reflect on the works presented and their meaning to our every day lives. Site-specific & Experimental works The SARUS Festival encourages artists to experiment. Process is important and risk-taking is essential to the furthering of artistic exploration for the benefit of personal and community enrichment. Art to us, while perhaps entertaining, is not entertainment, but an important process for people to engage in and part of our very nature as human beings. We encourage artists to connect their works to Wilmington and its unique geography and history. This year's festival topic is <LIGHT> <WATER> <DARKNESS>, a framework that is open enough to fit a multitude of interpretations while offering some guidance into themes of environmental stewardship, racial tension and opposing forces; overall, we seek to set the stage for artists and audiences to work through relevant current day issues. Please feel free to contact us any time. We would be delighted to speak with you about the festival and we would be tremendously thankful for previews and reviews of our events. Sincerely, Karola Lüttringhaus Luis Adorno Download pdf of Press Release here
